The new superintendent of Jenkins Independent Schools has been appointed.
At a special meeting Tuesday evening, the Jenkins Independent Schools Board of Education voted to hire District Technology Director Damian Johnson as the district’s new superintendent. Johnson was offered a four-year contract by the board and accepted during Tuesday’s meeting.
Johnson is a graduate of Jenkins Independent Schools and was the valedictorian of his graduating class in 1993. He has served in the school district for nearly two decades, serving in several different roles while also directing the district’s technology program.
Johnson succeeds former Superintendent Mike Genton, who was not offered a new contract by the board last month. Genton had served as superintendent since 2016.
