FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Officials with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) have postponed the search for a new president due the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
They hope to post the job again in August and announce a new leader by next January, according to a statement from the school system’s Board of Regents.
Meanwhile, current President Jay Box, who had planned to retire, agreed to remain in his position through the end of September. The extra time would ease the transition for Interim President Paul Czarapata, a vice president of the school system, who oversees technology.
The Kentucky Community and Technical College System is the state’s largest postsecondary institution. The Big Sandy Community and Technical College and Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College systems are divisions of KCTCS.
“In this unprecedented time, President Box has been working tirelessly to help the 16 colleges, employees and students transition to their new off-campus realities, and it would’ve been very easy to walk away and turn it over to someone else,” Board of Regents Chair Gail Henson said. “This is another example of the dedication he’s shown to this system and its students.”
