KY County Unemployment Numbers Released

Frankfort, KY — Unemployment rates rose in 75 Kentucky counties in August, fell in 36 and remained the same in nine, that according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, and agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate at 3 percent while Harlan County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 13 percent. In our region, Floyd County reported 6.6 percent down from 7.7 percent in July, Johnson County reported 6.5 percent down from 7.5 percent in July, Lawrence County reported 7.1 percent down from 8.1 percent in July, Letcher County reported 8.5 percent down from 9.2 percent in July, Magoffin County reported 12.9 percent down from 13.1 percent in July, Martin County reported 7.4 percent down from 8.6 percent in July, Perry County reported 6.3 percent down from 7.4 percent in July and Pike County reported 5.7 percent down from 6.9 percent in July. Statewide, unemployment in August stood at 4.3 percent down from 5.1 percent in July.
