Local Teacher In The Running For A Prestigious Award

JOHNSON COUNTY, KY. — JOHNSON COUNTY TEACHER MELANIE RAMEY HAS BEEN SELECTED AS A FINALIST FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE TEACHING. THE AWARD IS THE NATION’S HIGHEST HONOR FOR TEACHERS OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS. ENACTED BY CONGRESS IN 1983, THE PROGRAM AUTHORIZES THE PRESIDENT TO BESTOW THE AWARD EACH YEAR. IF SELECTED AS THE STATE WINNER, RAMEY WILL GO TO THE WHITE HOUSE TO RECEIVE THE AWARD. RAMEY IS A 4TH GRADE TEACHER AT HIGHLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
