Local University Offers Free Education

Wise County, VA — A regional institution of higher learning is starting a program to help low income families. The University of Virginia-Wise has started a program that will allow students, whose families make $40,000.00 or less a year, to attend the college free of charge. The UVA Wise “Within Reach” program will begin in the fall of 2020. To be eligible, the student must attend the university full-time and receive in-state tuition costs. Student will need to complete their FAFSA and be enrolled at the college by February 15th. University officials say the program will allow students to earn their bachelor’s degree without debt. UVA Wise will rethink the way it combines financial aid from the state and federal governments with private scholarships in order to make the program solvent.
