A Belfry man was indicted this week on rape and child pornography charges.

According to court documents, 26-year-old Cody West, of Riverfront Road in Belfry, was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a minor, possession of child pornography, third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy. Pike County Commonwealth’s Attorney Bill Slone tells Mountain Top News that the case originated from a complaint from the parents of the alleged victim in the case.

Slone says the case illustrates the importance of parents monitoring their children’s use of social media and with whom their children associate.

West could face up to 10 years in prison on the promoting a sexual performance by a minor charge, and up to five years in prison on each of the other charges.
