Elkhorn City, KY — Authorities responded to a missing kayaker Friday evening in the Breaks Interstate Park. According to officials, two kayakers from Delaware were in the Breaks kayaking when apparently, they were not aware of the level of danger on the river and both lost their kayaks. One of kayakers floated for several hours down the river until he came to Ratliff’s Hole and notified police his friend was missing. Breaks Interstate Park Police, Elkhorn City Police and Elkhorn City Fire Department responded. Shortly after 10:30 pm, just before a helicopter was to take off to join the search, the second kayaker came ashore at Ratliff’s Hole. The second kayaker was sore but otherwise okay. Neither kayaker was identified by officials.
