PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Since the official onset of winter, Highway District 12 officials have had to deal with more instances of mud and rock slides affecting travel than snow. And, with the higher than average amount of rainfall we have been experiencing, officials at Highway District 12 in Pikeville say, unfortunately, that trend will more than likely continue. Engineering Branch Manager for Highway District 12, Darold Slone says to be especially cautious traveling in areas where slides have occurred recently, as many times, debris will come from a particular area more than once. And, if you see a slide that has recently occurred and there are no emergency or Highway Department officials around, report it to your local law enforcement agency immediately.
