New rockfall/slide at Ivel more severe than similar one in 2015

IVEL, Ky. –  A rockfall/slide on US 23 at Ivel has rerouted all traffic into the Southbound lanes. The slide occurred before dawn Sunday morning, and is only a few hundred feet from the location of a similar slide that occurred in 2015.  As of Sunday evening, officials with Highway District 12 completed work to change the traffic pattern for that section of US 23. Both northbound lanes are now closed. Northbound traffic has been diverted into the southbound passing lane, and southbound traffic is traveling in the outside southbound lane.

Because of the changes, the speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour and will be strictly enforced.  EKB News will continue to maintain contact with Highway District 12 officials and will deliver updates to this situation as it develops.
