The three people accused of murdering a Neon man were in court Wednesday for arraignment.
38-year-old Clifford Caudill, 51-year-old Dedra Ann Keathley, and 33-year-old Clarence Brown pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Letcher Circuit Court to charges related to the alleged murder of 44-year-old Ricky Gibson. The three are accused of acting together to murder Gibson at Caudill’s residence at Neon in late April or early May, and then disposing of the body, which was later recovered by police May 3.
At Wednesday’s hearing, a pretrial conference was scheduled for October 31 in the case. A visit to the site of the alleged murder was also scheduled for prosecutors and the defense.
Caudill is facing a charge of murder, and Keathley and Brown are charged with complicity to murder. All three are also charged with tampering with physical evidence, and Brown is charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
According to court documents, Caudill is believed to have shot and killed Gibson. Police believe the alleged murder happened during the course of an argument while the four were using meth at Caudill’s residence. Letcher Commonwealth’s Attorney Edison Banks said the three are not eligible for the death penalty in the case, but they could face life in prison.
Clifford Caudill, Dedra Keathley and Clarence Brown remain lodged in the Letcher County Jail without bond.
