Frankfort, KY — An executive order, issued by outgoing Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin, will prevent current State Representative Rocky Adkins from collecting a higher state pension due to his senior position in Governor-elect Andy Beshear’s administration. Gov. Bevin’s action would prohibit “pension spiking” which is when former legislators calculate their pensions based, not on their years of legislative service, but on the higher-pay state jobs they take. In his news release, Gov. Bevin mentioned Adkins by name and called on Adkins to “retire from the General Assembly prior to his appointment in the executive branch so that his higher salary is not included in his final pension calculation.” The executive order was issued Thursday, just days before Bevin leaves office. A spokesperson for Gov.-elect Beshear said Bevin has returned to his attacks and name-calling.
