The Pike County Fiscal Court took emergency action Friday to approve a budget.
In a special meeting, the Pike Fiscal Court approved an emergency ordinance adopting its fiscal year 2018-19 budget. Pike County Treasurer Frankie Stacy said the emergency declaration was necessary in order to have the budget submitted to the Department for Local Government by the midnight June 30 deadline.
The process to get a budget approved was complicated this month by the resignation-under-scrutiny of longtime treasurer Johnda Billiter.
Stacy said he and his staff have worked long hours and late nights to get a budget prepared and reconcile nearly two years worth of finances. Officials have said the unreconciled finances were left by Billiter.
The members of the fiscal court praised the finance department for their work.
Stacy said the county has until July 15th to submit its 4th quarter finances from the current expiring fiscal year. The budget approved Friday includes finances from the first through third quarters.
