Pikeville, Johnson Central reach semifinals

PAINTSVILLE – It was a night of outstanding pitching as Pikeville and Johnson Central advanced to the 15th Region girls’ softball tournament semifinals with opening-round wins on Wednesday.

Pikeville eighth-grader Emily Ford tossed a three-hit shutout as the Lady Panthers blanked Belfry, 9-0. Meanwhile, Johnson Central senior Macy Daniel pitched a no-hitter in leading the Lady Eagles to a 10-0 mercy-rule win over Floyd Central in five innings.

Pikeville, now 29-8-1, will face Johnson Central (17-9) in tonight’s second semifinal game around 7 p.m.

Alexis Stanley had three of Pikeville’s eight hits while Lindsey Lockhart had two, both doubles, scored and drove home one run. Lindsey McNamee had a single and knocked in a pair of runs  and Cassidy Lowe singled, walked twice and batted in one run.

Paula Dotson had two hits in a losing effort for Belfry, which saw its season end at 17-17. Autumn Hall suffered the loss.

In the opener, Ally Windland had three hits while Alaina Castle and Daniel collected two each for the Lady Eagles. Lindsay Stambaugh, Abby Fannin and Alyssa Hedrick drove home a pair of runs each.

Katie Conley was the losing pitcher for Floyd Central. The Lady Jaguars end the year at 12-21.
