Pikeville man arrested after fleeing from police

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville man is behind bars after fleeing from police early Thursday morning.

Officers with the Pikeville Police Department stopped a vehicle after it was seen coming from behind a closed business.

Police say the passenger, 30-year-old Johnathan Bentley, of Pikeville, was breathing heavy and acting very nervous. As officers approached the passenger side, Bentley allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot, despite officers using their Tasers. He was later tackled and allegedly began to fight officers. Bentley was arrested and taken to the Pike County Detention Center.

Once at the jail, officers say Bentley attempted to eat a bag containing several pills.

He was charged with second-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, second-degree possession and promoting contraband.
