Pikeville rescinds lease offer with AppHarvest

PIKEVILLE, Ky. –  For nearly two years, there has been much in the news about AppHarvest, a company promising to bring jobs and fresh produce to Pikeville through a massive greenhouse project originally planned for the Kentucky Enterprise Industrial Park.  However, it no longer appears that dream will ever become a reality. In September, the Pikeville City Commission announced a reduction in the amount of property it was offering the company from nearly 50 acres to just over 11.  And, at a special called City Commission meeting Tuesday afternoon, the commission voted to rescind the latest lease offer to the company.  Pikeville City Manager Philip Elswick says he is already reaching out to other companies who have expressed an interest in the property.
