Police arrest shooting suspect in Williamson

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — There are no reports of injuries following an active shooter situation early Wednesday morning in Williamson.

Williamson Police, the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police responded to reports of a man randomly firing a gun in a residential area. When officers arrived, the man reportedly also fired at them.

Andrew James Hicks, 25, was ultimately taken into custody. He now faces numerous charges, including:

  • 14 counts of wanton endangerment
  • 10 counts of shooting within 500 feet of a dwelling
  • Four counts of attempted murder of an officer
  • Brandishing a deadly weapon
  • Obstructing an officer
  • Battery on an officer
