Police release details about death investigation

GUNLOCK, Ky. — Kentucky State Police has provided more information regarding the discovery of a body in Magoffin County on Saturday night.

Police say the incident was first reported around 8 p.m., Saturday, when they first received a call regarding an unresponsive person found in a creek along Johnson Fork Road. When officials arrived, that person was already dead

The victim has been identified as Joseph Smithers, 33, of Gunlock.

An autopsy will be performed to determine a cause of death. The case remains open and under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
