Johnson County, Ky.–The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in locating an escaped inmate.
Around 4:30 this evening Magoffin County Jailer Brian Montgomery was transporting several detainees to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville when one of the inmates assaulted him and escaped.
36-year old Jeremy Ray Arnett was arrested in Magoffin County earlier today and charged with 4th degree assault. As Arnett was being transported he allegedly claimed to be sick and when Jailer Montgomery pulled over that’s when Arnett made his move.
“When he pulled over Jeremy opened his door and began trying to jump out of his cruiser. Montgomery advised that he had gotten a hold of Jeremy. Jeremy began pushing and hitting him and pushed him over a guardrail and took off up the hill. Montgomery advised that he chased Jeremy up the hill for a short period, but was unable to continue on because there were more inmates in his cruiser at the time. He then contacted us and we met him there on 460 where the incident occurred next to Mick’s Auto Sales. I and three other deputies searched the woods until it became dark and we were unable to locate Jeremy anywhere in the woods.”
If you have any information concerning the whereabouts of Jeremy Ray Arnett you are urged to call the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office at 606-789-3411. Callers can remain anonymous.
