FRANKFORT, Ky. – Last week, State Representative John Blanton from Salyersville prefiled a bill that would give a tax exemption on the first $41,000 that former state workers earn from their pensions, restoring a previous law. As part of the tax reform package that passed during the 2018 legislative session, the first $31,000 that former state workers receive from their pensions are not taxed. Until that point, the first $41,000 dollars were not taxed. Rep. Blanton says the prefiled bill is part of a promise he made during the 2018 legislative session to help former state workers who live on fixed income. He explained that a bill to restore the $41,000 amount was introduced at the end of the 2018 session that passed the House but failed to pass the Senate.
