PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The votes are in for the Kentucky State Senate 31st District special election, and it was a close one. Republican Phillip Wheeler will be the new State Senator for the 31st District.
In Martin County, Phillip Wheeler defeated the democratic candidate Darrell Pugh by a vote of 688 to 265. In Morgan County, Darrell Pugh edged out Phillip Wheeler 671 to 609. Over in Lawrence County, Wheeler came out ahead by a vote of 1,182 to Pugh’s 795 votes. In Elliott County, Darrell Pugh won by a vote of 450 to Wheeler’s 168. In Pike County, Wheeler defeated Pugh by a vote of 4,691 to 4,475. With the total numbers we have, and we stress these are unofficial, Phillip Wheeler defeated Darrell Pugh by a vote of 7, 338 to 6, 656.
