Pikeville, KY — Kentucky State Police, Post 9 Pikeville has opened a missing person investigation in Pikeville for a person who went missing after going kayaking in the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River. According to authorities, a group of people were kayaking on the river Wednesday night when they became separated. A search began but the person was not located. Several emergency and rescue agencies are conducting a search that starts at the boat ramp behind the Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Pikeville and continues northward toward the Floyd County line. Crews from the Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Coal Run Fire Department, Pikeville Fire Department, Prestonsburg Fire Department, Millard Fire Department along with Pike County Emergency Management have search boats in the water. We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as warranted.
