Senate approves House Bill 185

Frankfort, Ky: For the past week, we have been telling you about House Bill 185 in the Kentucky legislature, which would triple the benefits for survivors of fallen police officers and other state employees killed in the line of duty. Currently, survivors receive 25 percent of the officer’s pay. That would jump to 75 percent with passage. The bill was approved by the House last week, and today, the Senate followed suit. This afternoon, the bill was given unanimous support. However, the Senate made two amendments to the bill, which means the House must approve those changes before it goes to the governor’s desk for final approval. One of today’s amendments — naming the bill the “Officer Scotty Hamilton and Officer Nick Rodman Memorial Act of 2018.”
