State Releases Annual County Unemployment Numbers For 2018

Frankfort, KY — Annual unemployment rates decreased in 117 Kentucky counties in 2018 compared to 2017, rose in 2 counties and remained the same in one, that according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, an agency within the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. Woodford County reported the lowest annual jobless rate for 2018 at 3.1 percent. Magoffin County reported the highest annual jobless rate for 2018 at 13.2 percent which was down from 16.3 percent in 2017. Elsewhere in the region, Floyd County reported 6.6 percent in 2018 down from 8.4 percent in 2017, Johnson County reported 6.9 percent in 2018 down from 8.7 percent in 2017, Letcher County reported 6.5 percent unemployment rate in 2018 down from 9.4 percent in 2017, Martin County reported 6.5 percent in 2018 down from 7.7 percent in 2017 and Pike County reported 5.9 percent in 2018 down from 7.8 percent in 2017. The comparable, unadjusted annual state unemployment rate was 4.3 percent for 2018 compared to 4.9 percent in 2017. Nationally, in 2018, unemployment was at 3.9 percent down from 4.4 percent in 2017.
