MARTIN COUNTY, KY.- Infrastructure is a key component to the revitalization of our local struggling economy and we are seeing our county roadways and bridges all throughout the state deteriorate at a rapid rate. Today in Martin County a nonprofit transportation research organization detailed the results of their findings concerning the bridges and roadways in district twelve.
“Just over a third of the county maintained roads in this region need to have resurfacing done immediately to get them back into good condition. The report also found that one out of every ten bridges in this region is structurally deficient. The traffic fatality rate is about a third higher than the statewide average and we know that when appropriate roadway safety improvements are made those have a significant on improving safety.”
Research results were similar for district ten. Tomorrow we will talk with local officials about why our roads and bridges have deteriorated and what they plan to do about it.
