LOVELY, Ky. — A Martin County woman was arrested after police say she threatened to kill social workers, then tried to ram them with her car.

The social workers told the Martin County Sheriff’s Office that Garnett Scott, 36, of Lovely, began threatening them after she was informed that a court had ordered the removal of her children.

As a deputy was driving to the location, a second call came in saying Scott tried to ram the social workers and run them over, then left. The social workers said they feared she was going home to get the children and flee.

She was arrested and charged with two counts each of wanton endangerment and terroristic threatening.

After separating the two, the woman told police she and her husband were arguing, when she said Evans grabbed her by the chin and neck and began choking her. The woman estimated that the choking lasted about two minutes, and then he grabbed a metal flashlight and began beating the van’s windshield with it. She said after he damaged the windshield, he allegedly hit her over the head with the flashlight three times.

The police report notes the woman had visible red marks on her neck and chin, as well as a large knot on top of her head.

Evans was arrested and charged with first-degree strangulation and second-degree assault. Both charges are felonies, with the assault charge being the most serious, carrying a potential prison sentence of 5-to-10 years.

Evans continues to be held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
