BIG CREEK, Ky. — Few details have been released in what is now considered a triple-murder case in Martin County.
Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts, however, confirmed to EKB News the third victim in the investigation, Amber Lockard, 31, of Huddy, died Tuesday morning.
According to Kentucky State Police, Micah Sammons, 20, of Kimper, and Dereck L. James, 26, of Huddy, were pronounced dead at the scene.

“We got the call Friday afternoon of three bodies located on a strip mine road. (It was) just across the Pike County line, on Kentucky Route 292 in Martin County,” said Trooper William Petry with Kentucky State Police. “Upon arrival, the first trooper found the three bodies, two males and one female. The female was still alive. She was transported to (Tug Valley) ARH in South Williamson. She was then transferred to Pikeville Medical Center where she passed away.”
The suspect, who has yet been identified, will now be charged with three counts of murder.
“It changes the investigation, somewhat, for the detectives,” said Petry. “But, they are still following up on leads. They have received some really good information today. They are in the process of getting the case together to make an arrest.”
KSP Detectives are working on the case diligently.
Petry added, “There’s a lot of information we cannot release any time we have a case. Due to the fact that if it’s out to the public at that time, it can compromise or possibly spoil an investigation we have. So, there’s information that we will give out and some that we hold off until it’s completed.”
Police ask that anyone with information regarding the case to contact KSP Post 9 at 606-433-7711. Callers may remain anonymous.
