Northbound traffic on U.S. 23 was down to one lane Monday evening following a crash on South Mayo Trail in Pikeville.
Authorities told EKB News a tractor-trailer traveling southbound crossed the northbound lanes, crashed through the guardrail and the slide fence along the highway, and crashed into the mountainside. The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment.
The wreck is under investigation, but removing the truck and the debris from the wreck from the scene was expected to take several hours.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. See the attached video below for more on the incident.
