Trial date set in Letcher County pursuit, police assault case

Shannon Fultz walks out of Letcher Circuit Court Wednesday after receiving a trial date in the case against him.

A Letcher County man will stand trial in the fall for allegedly fleeing from police and crashing into a police cruiser last summer.

Last August, 40-year-old Shannon Fultz, of Whitesburg allegedly ran from Jenkins Police in a high speed pursuit along Highway 805. Fultz will soon stand trial on charges related to that incident. Fultz appeared in Letcher Circuit Court Wednesday for a pretrial hearing in the case. Circuit Judge Jimmy Craft set the case to go to trial September 24.

Damaged allegedly caused by Shannon Fultz is shown on a Jenkins Police cruiser in this file photo from August 2017.

In an interview last August following the incident, Jenkins Police said Fultz led an officer on the chase along Highway 805 at high speeds, passing several vehicles, traveling toward the Thornton area near Neon. Fultz allegedly crashed his vehicle into a Jenkins Police cruiser during the alleged pursuit.

Fultz is facing felony charges of third-degree assault of a police officer, 13 felony counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and fleeing and evading police, along with several traffic charges. He’s also charged with being a persistent felony offender.

Fultz is currently free on bond.
