Walmart gives back by hosting food drive

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — It was a day of giving Friday at Walmart in Pikeville.

Walmart believes every family should have access to food that is healthy, safe and affordable. That can be a challenge for an estimated one in eight people across the country who struggle with hunger.

This spring, Walmart is asking everyone to join together to fight hunger and spark a change for a better future. In order to help, participants can purchase participating products in-store or online, use a Walmart credit card to make a purchase, donate cash, or make an online act of support by using social media.

“We have these multi-items packages that are various prices,” said Kenny Adkins, co-manager of Pikeville Walmart. “You can come in the front door, and they’re located here on the grocery side. Take it up front and drop it off as you go out and help fight hunger.”

“As [customers] come to the register, they can actually donate anything they want to donate,” said Roger Collier, store manager of Pikeville Walmart. “Round up their change or whatever it may be to go straight to the food banks. So, what Walmart does is receive the funds and cut a check to send to the local food bank.”

“This is one way to give back to our local community or anyone in need,” said Brooke Sesco, department manager of Pikeville Walmart. “This is just one way we do that.”

The campaign will last until the end of April.
