The Phelps Hornets picked up a big road win Monday night, defeating the Magoffin County Hornets 85-76.
Phelps had two players finish in double figures, led by an incredible performance from Tyler Weddington. Weddington posted a dominant double-double with 40 points and 20 rebounds — video game-type numbers that powered Phelps to the win.
Ethan Fields followed with 18 points to round out Phelps’ double-figure scorers.
Weddington was highly efficient, shooting 70 percent from the field, 66.7 percent from three-point range and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line. Fields shot 66.7 percent from the field and was perfect at the line.
As a team, Phelps shot 56.4 percent from the field, 46.7 percent from three-point range and 64 percent from the free-throw line. The Hornets also finished with 33 rebounds.
Individual statistics for Magoffin County were not available at press time.
The win improves Phelps to 13-11 overall, while Magoffin County falls to 6-21.
Phelps will be back in action tonight, Feb. 17, when they travel to Buckhorn for a 7:15 p.m. tipoff. Magoffin County returns to the road Thursday, Feb. 19, with a 7:30 p.m. matchup at Prestonsburg.
