Several communities across our region celebrated Independence Day a little early this weekend.

Among those, the City of Whitesburg, which always goes all out for its 4th of July celebration. Not only did the crowds enjoy fireworks, but also live music, food and more.

Hundreds of people descended upon Whitesburg Saturday evening for the annual celebration.

Preceding the fireworks were several musical acts, including the headliner, country music performer Carlene Carter, who is the daughter of June Carter Cash and the step daughter of Johnny Cash. Whitesburg City Councilman Mike Jackson said the event is a good opportunity to promote tourism in Whitesburg.

Organizers are always thinking about the next event in Whitesburg. Jackson said work will likely begin immediately to prepare for the city’s annual Labor Day celebration.

The Whitesburg Independence Day celebration was, of course, capped off by an impressive fireworks show, bringing friends and family together under the rockets red glare.
