A Prestonsburg woman accused of leaving a 3-year-old child alone with her overdosing friend is now facing more severe charges than originally filed against her.
31-year-old Tiffany Dawn Lewis, of Cliffside Circle, was indicted recently on drugs charges, including first-degree possession of a controlled substance, and also on a felony charge of first-degree wanton endangerment.
Lewis was arrested December 7th at Walmart in Pikeville after police responded to a report of a woman passed out in her car with the window down and her 3-year-old daughter sitting on her lap, shivering with no pants on. Lewis had allegedly driven Heather Pennington and Pennington’s two children to the store and left her and one of the children in the car.
Court documents said Lewis told police she “knew Heather wasn’t going to make it,” but left the child in the car with its mother anyway. She was arrested at the scene.
According to court documents, it was only 39 degrees at the time of the incident, and the child had been in the car for 2 hours before police arrived at the scene.
Lewis could face up to five years in prison if convicted on the felony endangerment charge.
