The first case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Knott County, Kentucky during a press conference Thursday, April 9, 2020.
According to a press release from the Kentucky River District Health Department, health officials are reporting that the confirmed case is a 39-year-old female who is a resident of Knott County.
This female is also an employee of the Hindman Appalachian Wireless Store. Health officials are saying that if you have visited this specific store between March 24, 2020 – April 3, 2020, you may have been exposed to COVID-19.
“We believe the risk to the public is low, and as this situation evolves, we will continue to communicate with the CDC, DPH and the people of Knott County. Remember, the best protection from the virus is complying with the prevention measures that have been set forth by our Governor, mainly social distancing and frequent hand washing,” said Kentucky River District Health Dept. Public Health Director Scott Lockard. “We do expect to see additional cases as more tests are administered.”
Lockard mentions that the subject is at home, doing well and not requiring hospitalization.
Health officials are strongly encouraging citizens to monitor your symptoms and should you develop a cough, fever and/or shortness of breath, call your primary care provider.
We will continue to provide COVID-19 updates on our website and Facebook page as more information becomes available.
