WV Man Sentenced In Federal Firearm Case

Charleston, WV — A Mingo County man has been sentenced to federal prison on firearm charges. According to United States Attorney Mike Stuart, Jay James Fields was sentenced to 18 months for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Stuart also commended the investigative efforts of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. According to court documents, in November 2017, Logan County Dispatch received a call regarding two suspicious individuals who had left a known drug house. A Logan County Deputy Sheriff identified the two individuals and attempted to speak with Fields who fled from the deputy on foot with a gun in his hand. The deputy retrieved the gun and United States Marshals apprehended Fields a short time later.
