A Floyd County man is dead following a crash Friday morning.
According to a statement from Kentucky State Police, Post 9 in Pikeville received a 911 call just before 7 a.m. of a single-vehicle accident on Ky. 80 in Martin.
Upon troopers, arrival, it was determined the operator of a Toyota passenger vehicle had lost control on the off ramp of Ky. 80 into the City of Martin, the statement says, and the vehicle struck a guardrail then overturned. The victim, James Curry, 80, of Melvin, was pronounced dead at Our Lady of the Way ARH Hospital in Martin by Deputy Coroner Chuck Hall, the statement says.
According to the statement, Friday’s slick road conditions appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Drugs or alcohol, the statement says, are not suspected at this time, pending toxicology reports. Kentucky State Police will reconstruct the crash. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
