Police: No foul play suspected in Pike teen’s death

The death of a Pike County teen is currently under investigation by Kentucky State Police.

Kentucky State Police Post 9 spokesperson Trooper William Petry tells Mountain Top News that detectives are investigating the death of a teen in Pike County who died this week. The teen was a student in the Pike County Schools District.

Petry says the case is being handled as a “death investigation,” and he added that foul play is not suspected in the teen’s death.

Pike County Schools Superintendent Reed Adkins says the teen’s death is tragic and is a significant loss for the entire district.

“It’s just the worst thing you’ll have to deal with, the death of a child,” Adkins says.

Adkins declined to comment further out of respect for the teen’s family.

According to the school’s Facebook page, counseling services will be available at the teen’s school on Monday.
