Youth rally set for this weekend at BSCTC

youth rallyPrestonsburg, Ky.–Many adult problems can be traced back to problems one had as a child. Human Services Students at Big Sandy Community and Technical College realize the connection with youth mental health to many adult issues and are doing something about it.

The students have organized a youth rally called “I Am Good Enough.” The rally is a project that has not only helped them, but the community as well.

Student:  “Some of the long term effects that this can have on people is that these children can set up suicidal ideation and they can set up depression. You know one of the biggest problems we have in this community is suicidal ideation and we are seeing it in the news more and more every day. By us getting out in the community and talking to these kids about it maybe we would be that helping hand to help stop that.”

Instructor: “When the project is over I want them to be able to draw the link between their intervention and the gaps still needed in services. These are things that will be good in the helping profession that they’ll be able to do in the future. It also benefits the community, lots of children have been able to get his education and access to community resources and know what’s available.”

The “I Am Good Enough” youth rally will be held Saturday November 18th from 12-4pm in Room 102 of the Johnson Building on the Big Sandy Community and Technical College Prestonsburg Campus.
