Driver, several students hurt in Magoffin County bus crash

A Magoffin County school bus lies at the bottom of a hill about 20 or 30 feet below the roadway, following a crash Monday morning. The bus driver and several students were injured, some critically.

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — Authorities are currently on the scene of a bus crash in Magoffin County.

The crash happened along Route 40, at Falcon. The bus plunged over a hillside and landed on its side, 20 or 30 feet below the roadway.

The Magoffin County School District said the bus was carrying 18 students and the driver when the crash occurred. The district further said there were no fatalities at the time of their statement.

Magoffin County Judge-Executive Matt Wireman told Mountain Top News that the bus driver and several students were injured in the crash. Two students were flown out and the rest were taken to area hospitals by ground. Four patients were said to be in critical condition.

The Salyersville Independent is reporting the bus slipped into a ditch on the opposite side of the road, then over-corrected and went over the hill. The paper reported that the driver was ejected from the bus and partially pinned beneath it.
