The 34-year-old woman called police from an auto parts store on Route 114 in Prestonsburg Sunday afternoon. The woman told police that Joe Evans, 51, of Inez, had held her against her will for three days. She further alleged that while driving through Prestonsburg, they got into a fight over a phone and he cut her cheek and finger with a pocket knife.

She and witnesses also told police that she tried to get out of the truck, but he wouldn’t let her, dragging her down Route 114 to the auto parts store, where he kicked her out and sped off.

The police report noted the woman also had old bruises and burn marks, and she told police he had caused them.

Evans was found at a gas station on Route 3. He disputed her version of events, saying she tried to jump out of the truck and he didn’t know what to do, so he stopped at the auto parts store and let her out.

Evans was arrested and charged with second-degree assault. He is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
