PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Letcher County man currently facing a federal drug charge is now expected to enter a guilty plea next week.

Mark Wayne Adams, 55, of Whitesburg, was indicted on a charge of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone back in March. He is accused of distributing oxycodone pills for nearly five years, from January of 2018 to December of 2022.

He was scheduled to go on trial Oct. 10, but on Wednesday, he asked the court that he be allowed to change his plea. The request does not specify if he has a plea agreement or what charge he would admit.

The judge granted the request and scheduled a rearraignment hearing for Oct. 6 in Lexington.
