HAGER HILL, Ky. — A Johnson County man is facing a felony assault charge, after allegedly attacking a sheriff’s deputy with a knife.

Sunday night just before midnight, the deputy spotted Christopher Dorton, 35, of Flat Gap, standing in the parking lot of the Hager Hill Post Office, screaming and waving his hands. The deputy spoke to Dorton and determined that he was possibly under the influence, so he tried to place him under arrest.
However, Dorton allegedly pulled a knife and went after the deputy, cutting his arm and finger. He then allegedly attempted to stab the deputy in the ribs, but only struck him with the knife handle.
The deputy grabbed Dorton’s knife hand and used a taser on him, but Dorton reportedly pulled out the probes and continued fighting. The deputy then used pepper spray on Dorton and was able to get handcuffs on him, despite getting pepper spray in his own eyes.
The deputy found a bag of meth in Dorton’s car.
He was arrested for first-degree assault, resisting arrest, public intoxication and other charges. First-degree assault is a felony, carrying a potential sentence of 10-to-20 years in prison.
