ABINGDON, Va. — Twelve people have been targeted in a three-year investigation into meth and fentanyl trafficking in southwestern Virginia.
The case was unsealed this week, following initial court appearances of the 10 suspects who have been taken into custody so far. Those who have been arrested include:
- Matthew Ryan “Red” Addington
- Ashley Linden Beverly Jr.
- Brandon Gene Boggs
- Eric Lee Coffey
- James Eugene Gamble
- Thomas Ray Houston Jr.
- Keith Edward Payne Jr.
- Brittany Chantae Rose
- Cody Allen Rose
- Andora Lee Smith
While the specific charges vary from individual to individual, all are charged with conspiracy to distribute large amounts of meth and/or fentanyl.
The investigation centered on Wise County, where the defendants live, but spanned much further, with some of the defendants allegedly acting as mid-level suppliers who would obtain large amounts of drugs in other states, then distribute locally themselves and through street-level dealers. The investigation was also taken online, as the 124-page affidavit in support of the arrest warrants includes 64 pages of text messages between the defendants.
The cases are all in the very early stage of prosecution. While charges have been filed, a federal grand jury will have to consider the cases for potential indictment.
