VIRGIE, Ky. – On Tuesday the Kentucky State Police’s Electronic Crime Branch located and arrested Charles Michael Hopkins, 34, on charges related to a child sexual abuse material investigation.
Hopkins was located, interviewed, and arrested as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children investigation. According to a KSP press release Wednesday, the branch began the investigation after discovering the suspect uploading sexually explicit images of juveniles online.
Officers took Hopkins into custody in Virgie. Equipment police say Hopkins used to facilitate the crime was seized and taken to KSP’s forensic laboratory for examination.
Hopkins is currently charged with 20 counts of possessing matter portraying a minor over the age of 12 in a sexual performance. Each charge is a Class-D felony punishable by one to five years in prison.
Hopkins was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center on a $50,000 surety bond. The investigation is still ongoing.
