Former Prestonsburg High School basketball standout Sherri Allen is taking the reins for the school.

DAVID, Ky. – At one point, The David School had gone a quarter of a century without a basketball team. Now they not only have a team, but a new acting-head coach, and a local basketball legend at that.
Sherri Allen, a former basketball standout at Prestonsburg High School, accepted the position this past week. A native of Eastern Kentucky, Allen started at point guard for the Blackcats and went on to compete as an All-State, Regional, and District player. After high school she attended and graduated from Transylvania University.
“It’s so satisfying for me to be able to pass on my love for the sport and serve my community,” Allen said Thursday. “I so enjoy giving back to my community and the kids I love.”
As a member of the school’s board of directors, Ned Pillersdorf chimed in Thursday.
“Having Sherri leading the team is special,” Pillersdorf said. “Now she’s coaching a team that also includes two female players, too.”
The move comes after The David School rejoined the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
