Highway Department District 12: Primary roads still partially covered, work beginning on secondary roads

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Officials with the state highway department say workers are in the process of clearing roadways around the region in shifts, focusing on primary roads at this time.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 Public Information Officer Shantana Woodward said Monday afternoon that the department has been through most A-level routes, or primary roads, and are now beginning to look at B-level and C-level routes, or secondary and tertiary roads, respectively.

“Crews report A routes are partially covered and B and C routes are mostly covered,” Woodward said. “We’re still focusing on primary routes, but some crews have been able to start on various B-routes.”

Woodward added the department expects temperatures to remain low, as forecasted, so there will there be little improvement as far as ice along roadways.
