NEWLAND, N.C. — Valley Elementary’s fifth-grade basketball team captured the championship at the fourth annual Viking Classic — Battle at the Border this weekend, finishing a perfect 4-0 against a competitive, multi-state field.

Coached by Jordan Johnson, Valley topped an eight-team bracket featuring programs from North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky. The team’s consistent play on both ends of the floor fueled its 4-0 run to the title.

Valley’s defense set the tone throughout the tournament, while balanced scoring and strong teamwork helped secure each win. The championship performance highlighted the group’s effort and composure against some of the southeast’s best.

With the victory, Valley Elementary adds an off-season title and builds momentum moving forward.
