Pike County Central’s Jonah Hicks delivered a historic performance Saturday, striking out 18 batters to set a new school record and lead the Hawks to a 1-0 walk-off victory over Jackson City.

In a game dominated by pitching, Hicks was nearly untouchable. The sophomore Hawk allowed just four hits across eight shutout innings while issuing only one walk, consistently controlling the pace and keeping Jackson City off balance. His 18 strikeouts accounted for the vast majority of outs recorded, which led to one of the most dominant outings in program history.

Despite Hicks’ command on the mound, the game remained scoreless into the bottom of the eighth inning. That’s when Grey Crum delivered the decisive moment, singling to bring home the game’s only run and secure the walk-off win for Pike County Central.

Crum also led the Hawks offensively, finishing with two hits and the lone RBI, while Korbin Ratliff added a pair of hits. Jackson City’s Preston Turner and Jagger Lovins each recorded two hits in the loss.

On the mound for Jackson City, Gavan Ritchie turned in a strong effort of his own, allowing one run over more than seven innings while striking out eight.

But the night belonged to Hicks, whose record-setting performance anchored a statement win for Pike County Central.
