Paintsville, Ky- Law enforcement officials say that the drug problem in our area, particularly with meth continues to rise. That was evident early this morning at 6th street in Paintsville at an apartment complex when officers with the Paintsville Police Department responded to a call of suspicions activity. When they arrived on scene they were given consent to search an apartment, and while there they found 10 syringes, some of which appeared to be used and uncapped, some loaded with a clear crystal-like substance. Upon continuing their search, they also found a bag containing a crystal-like substance they believe to be meth. Not only were there several adults inside this apartment, but two juveniles, ages six and two. Law enforcement officials say evidence of intravenous drug use can be seen all throughout the city.
“It’s an everyday thing. We’re always getting a call; a couple calls a day whatever it might be just here in Paintsville of people finding used needles lying on the ground at their back doors. We find them everywhere, it’s pretty bad right now.”
In all, six people were arrested at the scene. They include, Ian Toth, Kelcey Caldwell, Johnathan Fairchild, Ricky Tackett, Johnna Desanzo, and Christy Fannin. They were each charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, wanton endangerment of a police officer, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. The two children were placed with family members.
