Free clinic treats dozens in Pikeville

Volunteers converse during a free clinic in Pikeville.

Dozens of people were treated at a free clinic in Pikeville over the weekend.

For the first time, Pikeville First Baptist Church played host to a free clinic, providing free dental and medical treatment for those most in need in the community. More than 50 people visited Saturday’s free clinic, which was a true community effort.

Local churches and organizations, and volunteers from several medical and dental programs at the University of Pikeville came together to put on the free clinic.

The clinic was intentionally kept small in order to test the waters for the initial event. Organizers hope the event will grow with future clincs.

The next event is not yet scheduled, but with the success of Saturday’s clinic, hopes are high that even more people can be served in future events.
