Letcher County official arrested on DUI charge

A Letcher County official was arrested earlier this week on a DUI charge.

58-year-old Richard Hall, of Whitesburg, who currently serves as the Letcher County Surveyor, was arrested Tuesday at his residence.

A Mountain Eagle report stated police attempted to stop Hall’s vehicle after receiving a report about it driving recklessly, but he continued to his residence. The report said Hall told police he had hoped they would not arrest him if he made it home.

The report stated Hall had a half of a bottle of bourbon in the vehicle, and he allegedly admitted to drinking the other half prior to driving home.

Hall was charged with DUI, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and misdemeanor fleeing or evading police.

This is not Hall’s first run-in with police this year. Hall was arrested this past spring for allegedly stalking his ex-wife and making threats.
